Gutter Sparrow is John Mosloskie, an American songwriter and recording artist based in Rome, Italy. His work explores memory, distance, and agency — songs shaped by the echoes of reflection, transigence, and the inevitability of existence in time.

From the early aughts, John spent a decade active in band projects in and around New York City , primarily as the frontman of the rock outfit Holler Wild Rose, and subsequently as a touring musician before transitioning into a solo practice. That shift marked a decisive turn toward restraint and interiority, allowing space and vulnerability to take precedence over volume or urgency.

For the last decade, his solo work has been produced by longtime collaborator Anthony LaMarca of the Grammy Award- winning The War On Drugs.

After relocating to Rome, his work absorbed an altered sense of perspective. Living abroad introduced themes of exile, belonging, and identity reformation that came into focus on Letters From Rome (2024).

His forthcoming album, Windows on the Floating World is built around the idea that each exterior voice offers a fuller view of the human experience, and features contributions from inspired composers like Joshua Stamper and David Allred, and acclaimed musicians like Phil Keaggy and Philippe Bronchtein.

Gutter Sparrow continues to work with patience and intention, prioritizing coherence over speed and resonance over visibility; it is a music that resists strict genre boundaries. His songs are offered not as spectacle but as companions for listeners navigating change, loss, and the ongoing search for meaning.
